Johnathon Smith (b. Orlando, Florida) is a New York City based architect and artist. Fascinated by the theme of density, he aims to explore this concept by focusing on urban topics, anthropomorphism as applied to mundane objects and planned obsolescence.
Drawing by ink or pencil, typically, his practice aims to create richly detailed drawings that develop a tale or story existing within the architecture of the frame. Playing with skewed, playful perspectives and whimsical themes, his work strives to shift spatial perceptions fostering thoughtful connection between individuals, scale, surroundings and object.
Johnathon has displayed work throughout New York City including Interlude curated by Zeynep Arolat, 2020 (Group show, New York, NY), (In)animate Objects, 2021 (Solo exhibition, Brooklyn, NY) and 12 Works (Solo exhibition, Brooklyn, NY). In addition to displaying work, Johnathon has also created large-scale murals in Sunnyvale, California (Tech Company, 2022) and Brooklyn, NY (The Living Gallery, 2019). Johnathon continues to draw daily, constantly inspired by the quotidian textures of New York City.
